Belt grinders and sanding machines from Promash

The belt grinder is the machine on which metal is smoothed, chamfered, cleaned of weld and shaped with an abrasive belt. A stationary belt grinder does this faster and more evenly than an angle grinder, and your hands stay free for the workpiece. At Promash there are three OPTIgrind belt grinders and two disc sanders — with prices from €442.80 to €23,388.

What types of metal grinders are there?

Stationary grinders for metal are belt and disc types. The belt grinder works with a belt stretched between rollers and is good for long edges, radii and shaping. The disc sander works with a flat abrasive disc and is good for flat faces and precise angles. The two types often work side by side.

GBS 75 and GBS 150 belt grinders

A belt 2,000 mm long and 75 or 150 mm wide, two speeds — 1,450 and 2,850 rpm, a 1.5/2.2 kW motor and a table that tilts from 22° to 50°. They have spark protection and a 60 mm dust extractor outlet. This is a professional belt grinder for a shop, 400 V.

GB 100S belt grinder

A 100 × 1,190 mm belt, a 1.3/1.8 kW motor, 400 V. More compact than the GBS, with a durable industrial body and a balanced rotor. It costs €870.

TS 305 and GB 305D disc sanders

Both have a Ø305 mm disc. The TS 305 runs on 230 V with 0.9 kW, has a 155 × 440 mm table that tilts ±45°, and an angle stop of ±60°. The GB 305D has 1.1 kW, 400 V and a disc with a hook-and-loop pad for quick changing of the abrasive paper.

How to choose a belt grinder?

Choose according to the belt width and the power supply. The wide 150 mm belt grinds large surfaces and long edges, the narrow 75 mm one fits into radii and is convenient for shaping. If you do not have three-phase power, the only 230 V model in this category is the TS 305 disc sander.

  • Belt width and length: 75 × 2,000, 100 × 1,190 or 150 × 2,000 mm. A longer belt heats up less and lasts longer.
  • Speed: the GBS 75 and GBS 150 have two speeds — the lower one is for stainless steel and fine work.
  • Power: 0.9–2.2 kW depending on the model.
  • Extraction: connect a dust collector to the outlet, especially if you also sand wood.
  • Consumables: 2,000 × 75 mm abrasive belts and discs are in the metalworking machine accessories.

What is a belt grinder used for?

The metal belt grinder is used for cleaning welds, removing burrs after cutting, chamfering edges, smoothing profiles and tubes and shaping parts. In metal workshops it stands next to the band saw, so that the cuts can be cleaned straight away.

Belt grinders with a long belt are also used for shaping knives and tools — which is why people also look for them as a knife belt grinder. If you want a bench grinder and a belt grinder in one machine, see the combination bench grinders with a belt grinder, such as the GU 20S.
