What types of metal circular saws are there?

There are two main types of metal circular saws. The high-speed ones, such as the hand-held HKS 230, cut at 2,200 rpm and are light and mobile. The low-speed MKS saws work at low speed, with a gearbox and cooling — this is the classic machine for the shop. They are divided into manual, vertical, semi-automatic and automatic.

HKS 230 hand-held metal circular saw

A light hand-held circular saw supplied in a plastic case, without a cutting blade: 230 mm blade, 1.7 kW motor, 230 V, cutting a square profile of 80 mm at 0° and 56 mm at 45°. Suitable for installation companies, façade fitters, locksmiths and workshops. It costs €646.80.

MKS and LMS stationary circular saws with cooling

The MKS 250 N, MKS 275 N, MKS 315 and MKS 350 have a blade from 250 to 350 mm. The MKS 315 N comes with two cutting speeds, an oil-bath gearbox, a cooling pump and a head and vice that rotate 45° to the left and right. The LMS 400 has a 400 mm blade.

Vertical, semi-automatic and automatic

On the vertical MKS 315 V, MKS 316 V and MKS 350 V the blade moves vertically. The models with "H" and "VH" are semi-automatic, and the MKS 315 VA with CNC and LMS 400 A are automatic, for production runs.

How to choose a metal circular saw?

Choose according to the largest profile you cut and the volume of work. For installation work and individual cuts the HKS 230 is enough. For a workshop that cuts profiles every day, take a low-speed circular saw with cooling, MKS 250–315. For production runs think of a semi-automatic model.

• Blade diameter: 230, 250, 275, 315, 350 or 400 mm. A larger blade cuts a larger profile.
• Power: from 0.9 kW for the MKS 250 N to 2.4 kW for the MKS 350.
• Power supply: the HKS 230 and MKS 250 N are for 230 V, the rest — for 400 V.
• Angle cutting: a rotating head or vice allows cutting at 45° for frames.
• Cooling: the low-speed models work with coolant — the blade wears more slowly and the material does not overheat.

What is a metal circular saw used for?

The metal circular saw is used for cutting profiles, tubes, angle sections and solid material at an exact angle — in the production of gates, fences, railings, metal structures and furniture, in installation work and in metal warehouses. The low-speed circular saw makes a clean cut that often needs no further finishing.

If you mostly cut solid material of large diameter, a band saw is more suitable. Circular saw blades, roller conveyors and stops for long bars are in the cutting accessories.
