Radial drilling machines from Promash

The radial drilling machine solves one specific problem: the workpiece is large and heavy, and the holes are in different places on it. Instead of moving the workpiece under the spindle, you move the arm with the spindle over the workpiece. At Promash there are three Optimum radial drilling machines — two compact ones for 230 V from €630 and €755 and the production OPTIdrill RD 4 for €20,700.

What types of radial drilling machines are there?

We offer radial drilling machines in two classes. The compact RB 6T and RB 8S have a capacity of 16 mm, a drilling head that moves along the arm, and run on 230 V. The heavy-duty RD 4 is a floor-standing machine with an arm, a capacity of 32 mm and a 1,260 × 700 mm table for production.

Compact radial drilling machines RB 6T and RB 8S

Both models drill up to Ø16 mm in steel, have a 0.75 kW motor, speeds from 390 to 3,000 rpm and a quill stroke of 80 mm. The drilling head moves horizontally from 115 to 430 mm. The difference is in the height: on the RB 6T the spindle–base distance is up to 550 mm, on the RB 8S — up to 1,250 mm, so much taller workpieces fit under it.

RD 4 production radial drilling machine

The OPTIdrill RD 4 is for shops in which large plates, frames and housings are drilled. It drills up to Ø32 mm, has a 3 kW motor, a quill stroke of 220 mm, runs on 400 V and weighs 1,120 kg. A machine of this class is ordered after a conversation about the workpieces you will be machining.

How to choose a radial drilling machine?

The first question is how large the workpieces are. If you drill on a workbench workpieces that fit under a pillar drilling machine but you want to move the head instead of the workpiece, the RB 6T or RB 8S is enough. If you work with plates and structures of hundreds of kilograms, you need the RD 4.

  • Drilling capacity: 16 mm for the RB 6T and RB 8S, 32 mm for the RD 4.
  • Working area: the larger the table, the longer the arm and the greater the spindle–base distance, the larger a workpiece you machine without moving it. On the RB 8S this distance is 1,250 mm.
  • Power supply: the compact models are for 230 V, the RD 4 — for 400 V.
  • Space and foundation: the RD 4 needs a stable floor and space for the arm; the compact ones stand on a workbench.

Comparison of the three models

The three radial drilling machines cover two very different worlds — the workshop and the production shop. The compact ones cost as much as a good bench drilling machine, and the RD 4 is an investment for a shop. The table shows the capacity, power, power supply and price incl. VAT.

What is a radial drilling machine used for?

The radial drilling machine is used in the production of metal structures, mechanical engineering, heavy equipment repair and wherever many holes are needed in one large workpiece. The workpiece is clamped once, and the spindle goes to every point.

The compact models are also useful in smaller workshops: you drill several holes along the length of the workpiece by moving the head, not the vice. If the holes are always in the same place and the workpieces are small, the cheaper solution is a bench drilling machine or a pillar drilling machine.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a radial drilling machine cost?

The compact OPTIdrill RB 6T is €630, the RB 8S — €754.80. The production OPTIdrill RD 4 costs €20,700. Prices include VAT.

What is the difference between a radial and a pillar drilling machine?

On the pillar machine the workpiece is moved under the spindle. On the radial machine the spindle moves along the arm over the workpiece. This makes the radial machine more convenient for large and heavy workpieces with many holes.

Do I need three-phase power?

For the RB 6T and RB 8S — no, they run on 230 V. The RD 4 is for 400 V.

Can I see the machine in person?

The showroom is in Plovdiv, 47 Kuklensko Shose Blvd, with over 200 machines, open Monday–Friday, 09:00–18:00. Call +359 882 477 388 before your visit.

How are delivery and payment handled?

We ship the compact models with Pigeon Express to an address or office; the delivery price is shown at checkout and paid to the courier on receipt. For the RD 4 we agree the delivery and commissioning individually. Payment by bank transfer, cash on delivery, tbi bank or UniCredit.
