Bench drilling machines from Promash

The bench drilling machine is the first stationary machine to enter a workshop. It drills at a right angle without a trembling hand, and it stands on the workbench, not on the floor. At Promash there are 22 Optimum bench drilling machine models — from €254 for the smallest OPTIdrill DQ 14 to €3,803 for the OPTIdrill DH 28BV with a capacity of 28 mm.

What types of bench drilling machines are there?

Bench drilling machines are divided by three things: power supply (single-phase 230 V or three-phase 400 V), the way the speed is changed (by belt or steplessly) and how large a hole they drill. With us the capacity is from 13 to 28 mm, and the motor power from 0.35 to 1.5 kW.

Single-phase 230 V drilling machines

This is the larger part of the range: the DQ series, B 17PRO, D 17 Pro, DX 17V and others. You plug them into an ordinary socket in the garage or workshop.

Three-phase 400 V drilling machines

The 400 V models such as the B 16H, DP 26-T and DH 28BV are for workshops with three-phase power. Some models, for example the D 23 Pro and B 24H, are also offered in both versions.

With stepless speed control

On some models the speed is adjusted steplessly, over a wide range: the DX 17V runs from 50 to 4,000 rpm and shows the speed and depth on a display, the DH 18V — from 100 to 6,000 rpm. It is convenient when today you drill steel with a large drill and tomorrow aluminium with a small one.

How to choose a bench drilling machine?

Start with the largest hole you will drill in steel and the power supply in the workshop. For holes up to 16 mm and 230 V a machine from the DQ series for under €700 is sufficient. For 20–28 mm and work every day, look at the models with 0.75–1.5 kW and a longer quill stroke.

  • Drilling capacity. 13 mm for the DQ 14 and B 16H, 16 mm for the DQ 20V and D 17 Pro, 24–25 mm for the B 24H, D 23 Pro and DP 26-T, 28 mm for the DH 28BV.
  • Power. 0.35 kW is enough for thin sheet metal and small drills. For larger diameters and solid material look for 0.75 kW and above.
  • Quill stroke. From 52 mm for the DQ 14 to 105 mm for the DH 28BV. The longer the stroke, the deeper a hole you make in one go.
  • Speed. Small drills need high speeds, large ones — low.

A drilling machine without a machine vice is half a machine — the workpiece spins and the drill breaks. See the vices for drilling machines if you do not have a suitable one.

What is a bench drilling machine used for?

The metal bench drilling machine is used wherever accurate, perpendicular holes are needed: in metal and fitters' workshops, in car repair shops, in machine repair and in the hobby workshop. It drills steel, aluminium, plastic and wood.

With it you drill flat bars, profiles and brackets, countersink holes and make runs of identical parts using a stop. In production it often stands next to the pillar drilling machine: small holes are made on the bench machine, and large ones on the pillar machine.

The OPTIdrill D 23 Pro drills up to 25 mm and runs on 230 V — a serious machine without three-phase power.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bench drilling machine cost?

Prices are from €254 for the OPTIdrill DQ 14 to €3,803 for the OPTIdrill DH 28BV. A 230 V model with a capacity of about 16 mm, sufficient for most workshops, costs between €455 and €743. All prices include VAT.

Should I get a single-phase or a three-phase drilling machine?

If you do not have 400 V, the choice is clear — single-phase for 230 V. These are available up to 25 mm capacity, for example the D 23 Pro. Three-phase is better if you have the power and drill large holes every day.

What is the difference between a bench and a pillar drilling machine?

The bench machine stands on a table or workbench and is more compact. The pillar machine stands on the floor, has a taller column and a larger capacity — with us up to 55 mm. For holes over 25–28 mm look at the pillar machines.

Can I see the drilling machine in person?

Yes. In the showroom in Plovdiv, 47 Kuklensko Shose Blvd, there are over 200 machines. We are open Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00. Call +359 882 477 388 so we can check whether the model you are interested in is on display.

How is it delivered and can I pay in instalments?

We ship with Pigeon Express to an address or office; the delivery price is shown at checkout and paid to the courier on receipt. Shipments over 400 kg are delivered by arrangement. You can pay by bank transfer, cash on delivery or in instalments through tbi bank and UniCredit.
