Pillar drilling machines from Promash

The pillar drilling machine is the machine on which the serious holes are drilled: 30, 40, 55 mm in steel, day after day. It stands firmly on the floor, has a long column and a large table on which heavy workpieces are clamped. At Promash there are 37 Optimum pillar drilling machine models with prices from €822 to €17,124 and a drilling capacity of 25 to 55 mm.

What types of pillar drilling machines are there?

Pillar drilling machines differ in capacity, in the transmission (belt or gearbox) and in whether the spindle feed is manual or automatic. The smallest start from 25 mm and 0.75 kW, and the largest drill up to 55 mm with a quill stroke of 200 mm.

Belt-drive pillar drilling machines

The DQ 25 and DP 33 models, for example, change speed with a belt gearbox — the DQ 25 from 200 to 2,440 rpm. These are the most affordable machines in the category — the OPTIdrill DQ 25 for €822 and the DQ 32 with a capacity of 30 mm for €1,242. They are suitable for repair workshops and as a first pillar drilling machine.

With a gearbox and automatic feed

The DH models such as the DH 28GS and DH 35G have a gearbox with gears, and some of them have automatic spindle feed: DH 32GS, DH 35G, DH 45V, DH 55G. The DH 35G, for example, feeds at 0.05, 0.1 or 0.15 mm/rev and cuts threads up to M24 in steel.

230 V pillar drilling machines

If you do not have three-phase power, the choice is smaller, but it exists: DP 26F (230 V), B 28HV and B 34HV. The latter drills up to 34 mm on single-phase power with a 2.2 kW motor.

How to choose a pillar drilling machine?

The choice starts with the largest hole in steel and how many hours a day the machine will work. For a repair workshop with holes up to 30 mm a machine from the DQ or DP series is enough. For production with holes over 35 mm and production runs, look at the DH models with automatic feed.

  • Drilling capacity: 25 mm (DQ 25, DP 26F), 30 mm (DQ 32, DP 33, DH 32GS), 34–35 mm (B 34H, DH 35G), 40 mm (DH 40 BV, DH 45V) and 55 mm (DH 55G, DH 55V).
  • Quill stroke: from 80 mm for the DQ 25 to 200 mm for the DH 55V.
  • Power: from 0.75 to 2.8 kW. The models with a capacity of 30 mm and above come with motors from 1.1 kW upwards.
  • Voltage: most models are for 400 V; for 230 V see the DP 26F, B 28HV and B 34HV.
  • Automatic feed: costs more, but in production runs it pays off with a more even hole and a longer life of the drills.

What is a pillar drilling machine used for?

The pillar drilling machine is for metalworking shops, repair workshops, plant maintenance and the production of metal structures. Where thick flat bars, flanges, machine bases and runs of identical parts are drilled, it does work that a hand tool cannot.

With a suitable vice and table you drill, countersink and ream. If the workpieces are too large to be moved under the spindle, look at the radial drilling machines — there the arm moves, not the workpiece. For smaller holes and less space there are bench drilling machines.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a pillar drilling machine cost?

From €822 for the OPTIdrill DQ 25 to €17,124 for the OPTIdrill DH 55V. A machine with a 30 mm capacity costs from €1,242. Prices include VAT.

Is there a 230 V pillar drilling machine?

Yes — the DP 26F in the 230 V version, the B 28HV and the B 34HV. The B 34HV drills up to 34 mm with a 2.2 kW motor on single-phase power.

What is automatic feed and do I need it?

The machine lowers the spindle by itself at a chosen speed, instead of you turning the handle. For single holes it is not essential, for production runs and large diameters it saves time and drills.

Can I see the pillar drilling machine before I buy it?

Our showroom is in Plovdiv, 47 Kuklensko Shose Blvd, with over 200 machines, open Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00. Before you come, call +359 882 477 388 and we will tell you which models are on display.

How is a heavy machine delivered?

We deliver with Pigeon Express to an address or office; the delivery price is shown at checkout and paid to the courier on receipt. Shipments over 400 kg are delivered by arrangement. For the large pillar drilling machines, call us so we can agree the delivery and commissioning. You pay by bank transfer, cash on delivery or in instalments with tbi bank and UniCredit.
