Piston compressors from Promash

The piston compressor is the classic air compressor — for a garage, car repair shop, carpentry and metalwork shop. A piston compresses air into a tank, and from there it goes to the gun, the impact wrench or the machine. At Promash there are 141 Aircraft piston compressors with prices from €135 to €8,850 incl. VAT — from a small 230 V compressor for tyres and painting to stationary machines with a 500 l tank.

Types of piston compressors

Piston compressors differ in tank size, power supply (230 or 400 V), pressure (8, 10 or 15 bar) and whether they are oil-lubricated or oil-free. The series hints at what the machine is for.

Small 230 V compressors

AIRBOY 186 OF E is an oil-free compressor with a 6 l tank, 180 l/min and 8 bar — for €135. COMPACT-AIR 265/10 E has 10 l, 250 l/min and 10 bar. This is the class for inflating tyres, blowing, a stapler and an airbrush.

400 V workshop compressors

AIRPROFI 403/90 V (90 l, 390 l/min) and AIRCAR 553/22 PRO (2 × 11 l, 550 l/min) are for a workshop in which several tools work one after another. The letter V in the name means a vertical tank, H — horizontal.

Stationary compressors

AIRSTAR 853/270/10 H and V, AIRPROFI DUO 853 with two 100 l tanks and AIRPROFI 903/500/15 H with 500 l and 15 bar are for shops with constant air consumption. AIRSTAR and AIRPROFI 703/270/15 H have twin-cylinder grey cast iron units and a CONDOR pressure switch.

Oil-free and quiet models

The OF models deliver air without oil — for painting and for sensitive applications. AIRPROFI 703/10 Silent has sound insulation: 63 dB at 674 l/min.

How to choose a piston compressor?

Add up the consumption of the tools that will work at the same time and choose a compressor with a greater flow. Check the pressure they need and what power supply there is in the workshop. The tank is a buffer — the larger it is, the less often the compressor starts.

  • Flow. The stated flow is the intake flow — the air actually delivered is less. So take a margin over the tools' consumption.
  • Pressure. Most pneumatic tools work at about 6.3 bar, so 10 bar is enough. 15 bar is needed for special applications. The 15 bar compressors are factory set to cut out at 13 bar.
  • Power supply. The small models are 230 V, the larger ones — 400 V.
  • Tank. From 2.4 l for the AIRBOY KITT 90 to 500 l for the AIRPROFI 903/500/15 H.
  • Noise. From 97 dB for the small compressors to 63 dB for the Silent models.

What is a piston compressor used for?

The piston compressor is for intermittent work: a gun, an impact wrench, a stapler, painting, tyre inflation. It is the first choice for a car repair shop, a tyre fitter, a garage, a carpentry and a metalwork shop.

If you need air continuously all day or the consumption is above 1000 l/min, look at the screw compressors — they are built for continuous operation. You will find hoses, reels and quick couplings in the compressor accessories.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a piston compressor cost?

From €135 for the AIRBOY 186 OF E to €8,850 for the largest stationary models, incl. VAT.

What compressor do I need for a pneumatic impact wrench?

See the consumption in the impact wrench's description — for example the ISS Komposit 1/2″ consumes 420 l/min at 6.3 bar. The compressor must deliver more than that, with a reserve, because the stated flow is the intake flow.

Do you have a 220 V compressor?

Yes. The AIRBOY 186 OF E, COMPACT-AIR 265/10 E, AIRBOY KITT 90 and AIRPROFI 220/50 OF PRO are 230 V.

What does OF mean?

An oil-free compressor — the air is free of oil, which is important when painting.

Can I see the compressor in person?

The showroom is in Plovdiv, 47 Kuklensko Shose Blvd, Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00. Call +359 882 477 388 so we can check whether the model is on display.
