The machines in the category are for three tasks: precise sharpening of tools at an angle, sharpening of blades with water cooling, and rough grinding and cleaning with a bench grinder. The choice depends on what you sharpen — drills, knives and chisels or a bit of everything.

Drill and tool sharpening machines

The OPTIgrind GQ-D13 sharpens drills from 3 to 13 mm with a diamond wheel and costs €78. The GH 10 T and GH 15 T work with ER collets, and the GH 20T has a 24-position head and fixtures for lathe tools, milling cutters and drills. All are in the sharpening machines.

Sharpening machines with a water system

The Holzkraft NTS 201 and NTS 251 turn the stone slowly in a water bath, so the tool does not overheat and does not lose its temper. The wheel turns in both directions, and the holders help you get the right angle. They are suitable for knives, chisels and edge tools.

How to choose a sharpening machine?

Start with the tool. For drills at an angle take a specialised sharpening machine — hand sharpening on a bench grinder rarely gives a symmetrical point. For knives and chisels choose a machine with water cooling. For general grinding, cleaning and rough operations a bench grinder is enough.

What are sharpening machines used for?
