Sheet metal rolling machines

The rolling machine bends sheet metal into a cylinder, a cone or an arc — for tubes, casings, air ducts and gutters. What sheet metal rolling machines are there?

Rolling machines are of three types: manual 3-roll machines with a crank, electromechanical 3-roll machines with a motor, and bead bending machines, which form ribs, seams and edges. The working width is from 305 to 2,050 mm, and the sheet thickness up to 3 mm.

Manual rolling machines

The RBM 305 and RBM 610-8 are small machines for sheet up to 0.8 mm; the RBM 305 has a tilting side roller for conical bending. The RBM 1050-10, 1050-22 and 1550-10 have a cast iron construction, an asymmetric 3-roll system and a working width of 1,050 or 1,550 mm. The RBM 1050-22 bends 2 mm with a minimum diameter of 115 mm.

Electromechanical rolling machines

RBM 1305-15 E, 1050-30 E, 1270-25 E, 1550-20 E and 2050-15 E — with a motor from 0.75 to 1.5 kW and 400 V. The RBM 1050-30 E is controlled with a foot pedal, which leaves both hands free, and bends 3 mm; the RBM 2050-15 E — 1.5 mm at a width of 2,050 mm.

Bead bending machines

The SBM 110-08 and SBM 140-12 are manual, the SBM 140-12 E is motorised. The SBM 140-12 bends steel up to 1.2 mm, with Ø62 mm rollers and an S1–S8 roller set.

How to choose a rolling machine?

Choose according to the widest sheet and the thickest sheet metal you bend. For ventilation, gutters and sheet metal work up to 1 mm a manual machine with a width of 1,050 mm is enough. For 2–3 mm sheet or production work take an electromechanical machine — rolling thick sheet by hand is heavy and slow.

• Working width: 305, 610, 1,050, 1,270, 1,550 or 2,050 mm.
• Sheet thickness: from 0.8 mm for the small ones to 3 mm for the RBM 1050-30 E.
• Minimum diameter: determines the narrowest tube you can roll.
• Drive: a hand crank or a motor.

What is a rolling machine used for?

The rolling machine is used for rolling sheet metal into cylinders and cones — air ducts, casings, tanks, chimneys, gutters, tubes and cladding. Bead bending machines make ribs, seams and edges that stiffen the sheet and join it to another part.

It works in sheet metal shops, ventilation and air conditioning, and roofing and sheet metal workshops. Before rolling, the sheet is cut to size on a guillotine shear.
