Planer-thicknessers from Promash

A planer-thicknesser is two machines in one: the planer straightens one face and the edge of the board, and the thicknesser calibrates it to an exact thickness. This way from a crooked rough board you get a rectangular workpiece, ready for furniture. At Promash there are 24 Holzstar planer-thicknessers with a working width of 204 to 330 mm and prices from €504 to €7,799 incl. VAT.

Types of planer-thicknessers

The models differ in working width, in the length of the planer table and in the cutterhead — with straight knives or spiral. All are 230 V, so they work in a garage and workshop without three-phase power.

Compact ADH 200, ADH 250 and ADH 305

ADH 200 planes up to 204 mm wide and workpieces up to 120 mm high — for €504. ADH 250 and ADH 305 have 254 and 305 mm width and a height of up to 160 mm. All take off up to 2 mm per pass and feed at 7 m/min.

ADH 260 — heavier work

ADH 260 has a 63 mm diameter cutterhead, a 2 kW motor and takes off up to 3 mm per pass. The working width is 260 mm, the height — up to 160 mm.

DH 330-2 and DH 330-2 Spiral

Holzstar DH 330-2 planes a 330 mm width, up to 152 mm height, with two feed speeds — 4 and 7 m/min. The DH 330-2 Spiral version has a spiral cutterhead with 30 small cutters instead of 3 straight knives.

How to choose a planer-thicknesser?

Choose according to the widest board you machine and the thickness of the blanks. Then decide between a straight and a spiral cutterhead — the spiral one is more expensive, but the small cutters are replaced individually and leave a cleaner surface on knotty material.

  • Working width. 204, 254, 260, 305 or 330 mm.
  • Workpiece height on the thicknesser. Up to 120 mm for the ADH 200, up to 160 mm for the ADH 250, 260 and 305, up to 152 mm for the DH 330-2.
  • Stock removal per pass. 2 mm for the ADH 200–305, 3 mm for the ADH 260, 3.2 mm for the DH 330-2.
  • Power. From 1.5 to 2 kW, all 230 V.
  • Extraction. Without an extractor the chips quickly clog the machine — on the DH 330-2 the outlet is 60 mm.

What is a planer-thicknesser used for?

The planer-thicknesser is the first machine in the carpentry workshop. With it every piece of solid timber is prepared: you straighten the face and the edge on the planer, then calibrate the thickness on the thicknesser. Without this, glued tops, frames and doors do not come out straight.

It is used for furniture, window and door joinery, stairs, tabletops, restoration of old beams. After planing the board goes to the band saw or circular saw for cutting to size.

Which planer-thicknesser should I choose?

By the widest board: for 200 mm — the ADH 200, for 250–300 mm — the ADH 250 or ADH 305, for 330 mm — the DH 330-2. For a cleaner cut on knotty material — the Spiral version.

Do I need three-phase power?

No. All planer-thicknessers in the category are 230 V.

What is a spiral cutterhead?
