Woodworking lathes from Promash

The wood lathe spins the blank while you shape it with a chisel — a bowl, a table leg, a handle, a baluster. At Promash there are Holzstar wood lathes from the small benchtop DB 305 Vario to the professional DB 1202 Vario, with prices from €311 to €4,114.80 incl. VAT. All run on 230 V.

Types of wood lathes

Carpentry lathes differ in the distance between centres (how long a workpiece they machine) and in the turning diameter (how wide). The Vario models adjust the speed steplessly within the range.

Small wood lathes

DB 305 Vario turns up to 200 mm in diameter and 305 mm in length, with speeds from 750 to 3200 rpm — for €311. DB 450 has five steps from 680 to 2800 rpm and a 254 mm diameter. These are mini wood lathes for bowls, pens and small parts.

Medium lathes

DB 450 XL Vario (305 mm diameter, 460 mm length) and DB 510 Vario (355 mm diameter, three ranges from 250 to 3550 rpm) are for bowls and larger cups.

Long lathes

DB 900 and DB 1100 turn workpieces 900 and 1100 mm long — table legs, railings, tool handles. DB 1202 Vario has 1185 mm between centres, a 460 mm diameter, a 1.5 kW motor and speeds from 0 to 3200 rpm.

How to choose a wood lathe?

Choose according to the longest and widest workpiece you will turn. Then look at the speed control: large blanks need low speeds for starting, and small ones — high speeds for a clean surface. The stepless control on the Vario models is the most convenient.

  • Distance between centres. 305 mm (DB 305 Vario, DB 510 Vario), 450–460 mm (DB 450, DB 450 XL Vario), 900 mm (DB 900), 1100 mm (DB 1100), 1185 mm (DB 1202 Vario).
  • Turning diameter. From 200 mm for the DB 305 Vario to 460 mm for the DB 1202 Vario.
  • Power. From 0.25 kW for the small ones to 1.5 kW for the DB 1202 Vario.
  • Spindle. All models have an M33 × 3.5 spindle thread, so chucks and faceplates with this thread fit on each of them.
